Fun, flowerless wedding shoot in Rancho Sante Fe

Posted by on October 20, 2011 · 5 Comments

Here is proof that a wedding without flowers is not without character…

ceremony-paper-shoot

This adorable, flowerless photo shoot is the result of a crafty collaboration between some of California’s finest wedding vendors.

The colors are vibrant, the setting is breathtaking and the details are abundant!

photoshoot-paper-details

I’m smitten over the abundance of eye catching splashes of hot hues, whimsical decorations and geometric patterns.

paper-free-reception-shoot

Notice how many creative elements that unconventionally mimic the floral form including; the brooch bouquet by Fantasy Floral, the 3D frosted flowers on the Sweet and Saucy cake and the silk rose tablecloth and chair backs from Wildflower Linens.  SWEET!

With Becca Rillo behind the lens, every detail pops revealing the multiple textures and depths in every scene.

There’s a fantastic blend of dramatic and whimsical image styles in the set.

Clearly, this flowerless wedding has no shortage of FUN which is key to making your celebration memorable :)

Big thanks to Sophia at Les Belles Affaires for submitting this photo shoot.

Wedding at the Ringling Mansion in Sarasota: Jackie + Tim

Posted by on September 26, 2011 · 4 Comments

proposal and engagement

Jackie and Tim both work as Prosecutors in New York, but the Attorneys did not cross paths in the big apple In August 2008, the two attended the same training session in Columbia, SC and shared immediate sparks.

Luckily, living in the same city meant that their romance could continue to blossom when the session was complete.

At the end of 2009, Jackie returned to the same training facility where she met the love of her life.  She knew this session could not be as special as the first, but Jackie was wrong.  On the final night of training, Tim flew to Columbia and staged a surprise proposal with the help of the facility and some colleagues.

“It was incredibly romantic and very sweet,” recalls Jackie.

When K and K Photography sent me Jackie and Tim’s wedding photos, my jaw hit the ground.  Every single image was (and is) truly spectacular!  It looks like one of those remarkable events that you pray to get invited to.

I fell even more in love with this wedding after speaking with the bride. “I wanted everything about the wedding to be personal or meaningful in some way,” said Jackie. Jackie grew up in the Sarasota Florida area where, coincidentally, Tim’s family owned a vacation condo.  The couple knew Sarasota was the perfect destination for their October nuptials.

Jackie and Tim also shared fond childhood memories of attending the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus and the Ringling Museum of Art with their families. They couldn’t have dreamed up a more stunning venue than the historic Ca’d'Zan Mansion, a glamorous estate built by John and Mable Ringling in the 1920s.

The colorful mansion, nestled along the water, helped to inspire many of the other wedding details. Everything came together with the help of Coordinator Beth Carrick of Flawless Occasions.

Jackie looked absolutely radiant in her layered Vera Wang wedding gown with a floral belt.

The venue had no shortage of dreamy settings for taking pictures…

This next image, in particular, is screaming to be framed on the couple’s wall.

Dressed in stylish blue Jenny Yoo dresses, the bridal party looked fabulous.  You can tell by all the smiles and facial expressions that they were all ecstatic to be part of Jackie and Tim’s special day.

Have you ever seen such beautiful clowns?!?

After planning an outdoor ceremony and reception, Jackie was so thankful that “The weather was absolutely beautiful (not a cloud in the sky), and the temperature was perfect.  The sunset over the water during the ceremony and cocktail hour was amazing,”  she said.

The couple incorporated many creative vintage circus elements into their wedding, including;

  • Vintage Circus Lettering on signs and invitations
  • Guest welcome bags full of vintage circus candy
  • Escort Cards in Giraffe or elephant silhouettes
  • A photo booth full of fun circus props
  • A cotton candy machine during dessert
  • Round red clown noses for fun photo-ops
  • Custom trapeze and ringmaster cake topper featuring the bride and groom

Side note: That cake topper is off the charts! It was handmade by the talented Kate Chilko, a friend of the bride and groom.
Visit katechilko.com or email Kate to get one of your own.

From the below image, you can see how the beauty and style of the mansion helped inspire their complimentary color palette. Apple Blossoms Floral Design did a great job of adding some vintage flair and charm to the luscious bouquets and centerpieces.

When I asked Jackie to pick her favorite wedding memory, she said:

“I’ll never forget our first dance to Peter Gabriel’s “Book of Love.”  We had just gotten married, we were dancing on the terrace of this beautiful mansion by the water with all of our family/friends around us, on a perfect night – I really could not have imagined it any better!

To conclude Jackie and Tim’s magical celebration full of beauty, love and laughter, guests showered the newlyweds with gold streamers as they made their exit (smiling from ear to ear).

Get Kate Middleton’s Wedding Style

Posted by on May 1, 2011 · Leave a Comment

kate in two wedding gowns

Kate Middleton's two wedding day looks

It’s no secret that all eyes have been on on the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton this past Friday.  Even if you have avoided watching the chaos, pictures of Kate Middleton’s Wedding Style are hard to miss.  Most women and fashion critics have been boasting positive reviews of both wedding gowns that were custom designed for the new Duchess of Whales by Sarah Burton of Alexander Mcqueen.

If you want to get Kate’s iconic bridal style (which I believe channels Grace Kelly), there are some similar designer gowns on the market that you might want to check out.

KATE’S FIRST WEDDING DRESS (CEREMONY):

kate's-first-lace-wedding-gown

After recently seeing Romona Keveza’s Spring 2012 collection, I immediately thought the royal inspired line would be the closest to what Kate would wear on her big day.  The first and third pictures above, from that collection, got pretty close to the real deal.

The middle dress, from the Spring 2012 Wtoo collection from Watters and Watters, has a similar neckline and top lace portion.  The bottom, however, carries out the lace (unlike Kate’s) and takes a more figure forming “fit and flare” shape.

KATE’S RECEPTION GOWN:

kate's-second-wedding-dress

The first gown pictured is a Lazaro designer favorite (from Jim Hjelm Couture).  The embellished belt accentuates a smaller waist and has a skirt volume that’s similar to Kate’s circular shaped skirt and the dress also has the sweetheart neckline.  However, it’ does have some more ruching details and adds pockets.

The middle gown is another Wtoo gown by Watters.  In this dress, there is much less ruching but still a bit more than Kate’s Sarah Burton gown.  It does have the waistline embellishment but it certainly has a less eye catching bling factor. I don’t know how pricey Kate’s waist sparklers were but I’m assuming they cost a pretty penny.

Finally, another Romona Keveza collection gown.  Adding a sweetheart neckline should be a cinch for any tailor, giving this dress a bodice like Kate’s.  The clean lines, satin fabric and embellishment have a similar polished, chic look although the skirt is replaced by a dropped waist and  mermaid shape.

All of these dresses showed up on the scene before Kate’s wedding. Soon Kate Middleton gown replicas will be everywhere!

Real Wedding in Pebble Beach: Erin+Andrew

Posted by on April 25, 2011 · 6 Comments

erin-andrew-wedding

Erin and Andrew met during their Senior year of college at UC-Berkeley and became close friends.
“The transition from friends into something more serious happened while traveling in Australia after graduation
,” Erin says.

proposal and engagement

Last February, the adorable couple was invited to join Andrew’s sister (and family) on a beach house vacation in Oahu, Hawaii.  Of course, the two did not pass up the opportunity to take a romantic getaway together.  While Erin had a tranquil and relaxing vacation, she had no idea that Andrew had nervously been walking around with a diamond ring in his pocket, searching for the perfect moment to pop the question.

When Erin and Andrew sat on the beach to soak in the beautiful sunset on their last day in Oahu, Andrew presented the diamond ring and formally asked Erin to become his wife.

First, many thanks to the talented Sia McDonald for sharing these amazing photographs!

To say that Erin and Andrew’s wedding was “dreamy” is an understatement.  Every last wedding detail, which there was no shortage of, was thoughtfully planned by the visionary bride.  Erin loves finding little pieces that inspire her, from flea market finds to garage sale nick-knacks. Clearly, the girl could have a very bright future in event design.

pebble-beach-outdoor-weddingceremony-pebble-beach

The wedding was held at a family friend’s private estate in Pebble Beach California.

We were so incredibly fortunate to have such special friends offer up their beautiful home for the occasion.  The homeowners, my parents, family friends, and my husband and I were a regular work detail at the property in the weekends and months leading up to the wedding,” says Erin.

private-estate-wedding-reception

She adds, “I love and enjoy design, and really felt it was important that people felt like they were part of a special event from the moment they stepped onto the property.”

Mission accomplished!

Perhaps what makes this wedding so utterly chic is the brilliant infusion of many different wedding styles.  Erin managed to maintain a cohesive look with universal appeal- giving every guest something to swoon over.

wedding-details

Having a skilled “handyman” for a dad and a creative mother, Erin counted on her parents to help with the many do-it-yourself “wedding projects” she envisioned.

Projects included: the hand painted sign post, a family photo wall, wooden lanterns on the pathway, hanging tree lights with floating blooms, a mirrored place card display, a custom photo booth, etc.

Together, the bride and groom designed all of the wedding paper goods (printed by the Greener Printer).

stunning-pebble-beach-wedding

When I asked Erin which wedding details were most important to her she said, “According to my husband, everything!”

“I think a lot of my family and friends looked at me like I was crazy when I was going into so much detail, but I asked them just to trust me and that once it’s all put together they will understand why I wanted it…and they did.”

Be sure t0 check out Erin and Andrew’s “dream team” of outstanding wedding vendors!

Vintage bridal styles inspired by the Tube

Posted by on April 11, 2011 · Leave a Comment

People have been going MAD over the hit TV series, Mad Men on AMC.  The award winning show fuels our love for vintage fashion and has been inspiring many 1960′s style brides and celebrations.

The Aisle Say blog from Brides.com offers some easy tips for having your own Mad Men style wedding.

Here’s my quick recap:

Mad-Men-inspired-wedding-tips

*All photos courtesy of Brides.com

  1. Retro style hair waves (use a large barreled curling iron to get them)
  2. Where a pair of white wedding gloves (shorter styles work best)
  3. Get a wedding dress with sleeves- women of the day were too modest to show off their shoulders
  4. Where a birdcage wedding veil
  5. Choose knee or secretary length bridesmaid’s dresses (“wiggle dresses”)
  6. Wear bold, red lipstick
  7. Serve 1960′s style cocktails like Mint Julep’s (bourbon, mint and sugar) in vintage glasses
  8. Wear pearl jewelry-or adorn your bridesmaids with them
  9. Rent a vintage luxury car for your transportation instead of a limo

I love love love these Mad Men inspired wedding invitations created by Danielle Leopold Designs.  Every single detail, from the bold colors and unique fonts to the vintage photograph RSVP cards was cleverly constructed to complete the ultimate vintage invitation set.

If you’re more of a crafty and hands on bride, you can make your own Mad Men Save the Date I found on Your Savvy Soiree (originally posted by the Wedding Chicks)

mad men save the date

This backyard style Mad Men inspired wedding, photographed by Dana Grant and posted last year on the brilliant Green Wedding Shoes blog has been bookmarked for 10 months and it’s still as impressive as it was when I first came across it.

There are SO many extraordinary images and details to this celebration that you cannot miss.  Visit Green Wedding Shoes and get the complete coverage of  Catie and Ben’s Real Wedding.  After four incredible seasons, there should be plenty more 1960′s Mad Men inspiration circulating the web.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new vintage era in TV land.  HBO’s latest series, Boardwalk Empire, has opened up eyes and hearts to the fabulous Roaring 1920′s. Beaded, fringed and feathered frocks, pearls galore and Great Gatsby style parties… need I say more?  If only I could have been a real flapper…

boardwalk-empire on hbo

Finding an amazing and glamorous 20′s style gown should not be a difficult task these days.  Bridal Gowns by Jenny Packham and Sue Wong bridesmaids dresses immediately come to mind but there’s much more out there.  Of course, any ensemble can be jazzed up (cheesy pun intended) with 1920′s style jewelry and adornments.

Here’s one of my Great Gatsby style inspiration boards:

Real Wedding in upstate New York: Kristin+Craig

Posted by on March 7, 2011 · Leave a Comment

proposal and engagement

One unexpected evening, Craig, a professional map maker, gave Kristin a custom map that highlighted all of their special places.  He included the vegan Restaurant in NYC where he first met Kristin, the spot of their first vacation, camping trip and one other place that was covered with a giant sticker. When Kristin peeled off the sticker she saw the city the couple just recently moved to along with an aid that said “Will you marry me?

barn-wedding

First, don’t these two make an adorable couple? The beautiful images by Turnquist Photography, show you just how sweet and picture perfect their wedding day was. Kristin wore a beautiful and timeless lace wedding gown by Jim Hjelm.  Her bridal party selected their own yellow colored dresses and the groomsmen wore matching yellow ties. barn-wedding 2

The bride described her wedding style as “Country Chic.” She adds, “My perfect wedding day consisted of hay rides, bonfires with s’mores, apple cider (made locally) and horses that guests could feed apples to.” The Apple Barn Farm in Livingston New York offered all of these things and proved to be the ideal venue.

barn-wedding-3

I adore the vintage, mismatched china patterns on each table and the above image of the bride and groom dancing while a bridesmaid sings. The couple’s reception was jam packed with rustic barnyard themed details (as shown below). barn-reception-details

Ultimately, creating a fun experience for their guests was the the bride and groom’s ultimate goal and they did not fall short… It was an epic and unforgettable occasion!

Real Wedding at the Biltmore Estate: Amy+Justin

Posted by on February 21, 2011 · 3 Comments

Amy and Justin became pen pals through a military support service designed to connect service members.  Justin was in Austin Texas for flight training, while Amy attended medical school in Syracuse, New York.  Before ever seeing each other, they spent an entire year writing, emailing and speaking on the phone (for hours).

When Justin had completed his program, he invited Amy to fly to Texas for his Air Force Graduation and she accepted the invitation.

When I got off the airplane, and jumped into his arms, it was love at first sight for both of us.  That was an interesting weekend because not only did I meet Justin for the first time, but I also met his entire family, including his parents and four siblings,” said Amy.

Although they both led busy lives and resided in different states, the couple always made time for each other and knew the distance was only temporary.

rings-amy-justinproposal and engagement

Amy is also a trained pilot, like Justin. Before she would begin her residency in general surgery, the couple took a flying trip together.

Justin planned out a special proposal to take place in a hot air balloon at their final destination, Asheville, NC.   When the balloon ride was canceled because of the weather, Justin quickly changed his plans.  He romantically proposed over a champagne picnic lunch on the grounds of the beautiful Biltmore Estate.

Good thinking, Justin:)

wedding-date

Luckily, Amy and Justin shared the same vision of the “perfect wedding.”

They planned a classic, timeless and elegant affair full of personal touches.   There was clearly no venue more perfect than where the two got engaged.  Thanks to the stunning photography of Two Ring Studios, you can see just how breathtaking the Biltmore Estate property is…

biltmore-estate-wedding

Equally (if not more) stunning was the bride!

Amy took several trips to New York City to find her perfect dress.  She finally said Yes to the dress, off camera, to a gorgeous Pnina Tornai gown purchased at Kleinfeld Manhattan.  She paired the dress with elegant Manolo Blahnik heels and looked like a princess!

The Flower Gallery mimicked the gown’s sparkly embellishments in the form of a bouquet wrap…speaking of the bridal bouquet, what a dreamy bundle of blooms!?!

amy-justin 1bride-amy

The couple decided not to have a wedding party, however they did have an AMAZING ring bearer- Amy’s nine year old Vizla dog, Jack.

Although Jack happens to be blind, he did an excellent job at the ceremony and was walked down the aisle in style.

dog-ring-bearer

One of Justin’s favorite memories was standing next to Amy in front of the minister together as the two became husband and wife.

ceremony of amy and justinamy-justin-just-married

The handsome groom also enjoyed kicking off the reception with the first dance.  As the hit the dance floor, Sweetwater Junction, played their song, “Right Where I Need to Be, “ by Gary Allan.

Justin insisted that he and Amy take dance lessons before the wedding to look “polished.”  As it turned out, the couple had an absolute blast dancing together!

first-dance-biltmore

According to the bride, “The Flower Gallery was instrumental in providing the backdrop for our dream wedding.”

Their beautiful decor transformed the Lioncrest at the Biltmore Estate into an elegant reception space with the help of the couple’s wedding planner, Gwenn Ford of Wedding Inspirations.

biltmore-reception-decor

Guests of the wedding felt like they were part of an incredible fairytale as Justin and Amy’s wedding visions came to life.

“My favorite wedding memory was when we were walking out of the reception at the end of the night.  All of our families and friends were lined up down the walkway where our limo was waiting.  As we walked out, everyone began cheering and throwing rose petals.  I’ll just never forget all of the lights flashing and seeing the delighted looks on the faces of so many people I love,” said Amy.

Congratulations to Justin and Amy… May they live happily ever after!
