charitable weddings

Wfavorable donationhen horrific tragedies like the recent Haiti Earthquake strike, it is hard to justify spending so much money on all of the many wedding expenses. I was thrilled that my shower hosts opted to donate favor money to one of the causes I am so passionate about at my wedding shower last year.

Why not ask your shower host(s) to forgo flowers or favors in leu of a donation to one of the Haiti disaster relief organizations?

Visit the I Do Foundation for FREE charitable donation place cards and let your guests know you have made a donation in their honor. Of course, you can also donate a portion of your wedding gift money.

New Year’s Eve Weddings

Posted by on January 7, 2010 · Leave a Comment

For the couple that wants their big day to be a stand out, memorable celebration, consider throwing your wedding on New Year’s Eve.

Most people will agree that paying outrageous amounts of money for tickets to attend some random NYE party is completely overrated.
Venues are sweaty, overcrowded and guests wait in long lines just to get a low grade alcoholic beverage.

My brother and sister-in- law had their wedding in Chicago on NYE and it was a brilliant way to “ring in the New Year.”
The black-tie, champagne themed event was held at Cafe Brauer. Levy Catering provided delicious all-you-can-eat food stations open throughout the night.
There was a premium open bar with immediate service, a live band and DJ combo group (Standing Room Only), safe transportation for all and prearranged hotel room blocks at the Westin Chicago (at a discounted rate). Definitely, the most memorable New Year’s Eve I’ve ever had!

It was an evening full of golden glitz and glam, from the invitations to the metallic gold luxurious tablecloths.
Guests brought their “A-game,” put on their festive party hats and used other fun props that were passed out throughout the evening.
Another plus for any couple throwing a New Years Eve wedding is that nobody forgets  your Anniversary!
Just check out the random, positive responses regarding NYE weddings from the wedding bee forums.  That could be your special wedding that people are raving about:)

The only bad thing about a New Year’s eve wedding is not being on the guest list!

I try to post
bridal tips, finds and ideas every day so I apologize for the recent delay. I had my surprise pre-bachelorette party in Chicago, followed by an amazing bachelorette getaway in Scottsdale, AZ. Thank you to my friends and family for planning and celebrating with me (and to my aunt, uncle, and cousins/bridesmaids who lent us all their breathtaking home for the occasion). We all felt like desert princesses! I LOVE YOU GUYS!
Anyway, enough of my personal shout-outs… many wedsavvy posts to come.

TIP:
Some posing ideas may not translate well! Before you start to get cute and creative, check out this FUNNY gallery:

“Love is funny: Awesomely BAD engagement photos” from guidespot.com

I always applaud a more photojournalistic approach, but I don’t think this is the type of “story-like photos” you want to tell!

DIY Wedding Shower Towel Cakes

Posted by on July 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

diy towel cake
I had so much fun making these towel cake centerpieces for a recent wedding shower. Everyone raved about the creative decor which set a fun tone for a fabulous event. The colors of the shower were pink and orange.

MY SECRET IS OUT!
I found all of my cake ingredients at a local dollar store! Faux pearl necklaces, faux flowers and petals, thick patterned ribbon, and plastic flower barrettes
It took under 10 min. and less than $10 to make

Follow my recipe to make your own towel cake:

INGREDIENTS:
2 white bath towels
3 white hand towels
3 white wash cloths
Large Safety pins
Long straight pins (pins that have pearl or decorative ends look great)
Ribbon – Satin or organza are good choices
(Optional) Real or silk flowers, charms, bows, garland, pearl strands, crystals
, etc.

1. Fold each bath towel in half lengthwise twice. Pin the two ends together then roll into a tight coil-use pins to anchor.

2. Use hand towels for the second layer and wash cloths for the top (rolling each layer the same as the bath towels). Use pins to help keep each layer stable.

3. Place each coiled layer in it’s place- this works best when placed on a cake stand or tray (for easy transportation)

4. Now that you have your cake foundation, let the fun begin and Ice on your cake. Just like a wedding cake, the decoration possibilities are endless!

-Add personalized stickers or labels for extra special pizazz and branding.
