Chicago event recap: Lucky and Dior Beauty Bash

Posted by on October 24, 2011 · Leave a Comment

While having your makeup professionally done is a treat, learning how to master your own polished look is so much sweeter.
Before the Royal Wedding, Princess Kate Middleton received makeup lessons so she could apply her own makeup on the epic day without the hands of a pro.

Thanks to Lucky Magazine and Dior Beauty, ten stylish women gathered at Bloomingdales in downtown Chicago for a private event where they learned how to create their own flawless faces.

Dior’s incredible skin care solutions and outstanding new color palettes did absolute wonders for the attendees.  Sadly, the yellow department store lighting does not do the pictures justice…

I highly recommend that all you brides (and everyone else) visit the Dior Counter to discover their amazing beauty products.

Spring 2012-fabulous bridal gowns

Posted by on May 4, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Future brides can look forward to trying on some sweet new wedding gowns spotted on the catwalk.

Here’s my (long overdue) Spring 2012 Bridal Runway Round-up…(in no particular order). I had too many favorites so it was tough to narrow down the list to nine.

Best-Spring-2012-wedding-dresses

Pictured Gowns:

  1. Reem Acra- glamorous sparkled embellishments under romantic layers of sheer and flowing fabrics and slightly more transparent short sleeves. I’m loving the illusion bodice with the see through a-line structure.   Now, that’s a gown your guests are going to want to see up close and personal.
  2. Monique Lhuillier- Another stunning and detailed Monique Lhuillier design that’s consistent with her beautiful, feminine aesthetic. I think the blush color adds some more romance but the gown is also available in white.
  3. Carolina Herrera- This dress is classic, elegant and simply marvelous, darling.  Herrera certainly knows elegance and this lace mermaid gown is proof of that.  How Sophisticated and timeless!
  4. Christos- Loving the infusion of the most popular silhouette with extra special and unique ribbon style adornment to add the wow factor.  The detailing is unlike the other patterns seen on the bridal runway this season.
  5. Carolina Herrera- Again, upscale elegance is the name of the game.  This dress is simply a work of art and the more I look at it, the more I like it.  A ballgown style that’s tailored and painted to perfection.
  6. Oscar De La Renta- A silver metallic shimmer top with layers upon layers of soft and angelic fabric folds.  All eyes on the bride-this gown is full of glam!
  7. Monique Lhuillier- You can easily spot the designer’s creations as she knows just how to flatter a woman’s body.  This dress celebrates femininity with it’s impeccable floral details.
  8. Ines Di Santo- The go to designer for showstopping ballgowns, gives us a sexy and stand out number that will make the grooms jaw drop.  It’s a ballgown that manages to show off a gorgeous body.
  9. Ines Di Santo- Another beautiful designer gown that stood out in a collection with lots of ballgowns.  The clean lines and polished look of this dress is modern, sophisticated with a beautiful touch of glitz and glam. Very Parisian Chic!

Wedding Dress Envy: Rebecca Twigley Judd

Posted by on April 13, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Before I get into showcasing some new designer bridal gowns for Spring 2012, I had to indulge you in seeing this fabulously sexy and breathtaking bridal gown.

This showstopping dress was worn by Aussie model Rebecca Twigley at her New Year’s Eve wedding to AFL football player Chris Judd in Melbourne, Australia… kind of looks like Vera Wang meets P’nina Tornai?

According to the Wedding Style Guide,

Rebecca chose close friends Jacob Luppino and Anthony Pittorino of J’Aton Couture to create her exquisite art deco-inspired gown as well as her bridesmaids and her mothers gowns. Weighing a whopping 30kg the gown featured lace and intricate beading all over the bodice and took 300 hours to make.

Clearly one talented and fashion forward design house…

J’Aton also dressed Rebecca’s bridesmaids in flowing pewter gowns of different styles to compliment each one of their figures.

I am enamored by these amazing, sultry bridesmaid dresses… however, I wish there was one extra layer of fabric on the bottom!

What do you think of the Aussie bombshell’s wedding style?

Vintage bridal styles inspired by the Tube

Posted by on April 11, 2011 · Leave a Comment

People have been going MAD over the hit TV series, Mad Men on AMC.  The award winning show fuels our love for vintage fashion and has been inspiring many 1960′s style brides and celebrations.

The Aisle Say blog from Brides.com offers some easy tips for having your own Mad Men style wedding.

Here’s my quick recap:

Mad-Men-inspired-wedding-tips

*All photos courtesy of Brides.com

  1. Retro style hair waves (use a large barreled curling iron to get them)
  2. Where a pair of white wedding gloves (shorter styles work best)
  3. Get a wedding dress with sleeves- women of the day were too modest to show off their shoulders
  4. Where a birdcage wedding veil
  5. Choose knee or secretary length bridesmaid’s dresses (“wiggle dresses”)
  6. Wear bold, red lipstick
  7. Serve 1960′s style cocktails like Mint Julep’s (bourbon, mint and sugar) in vintage glasses
  8. Wear pearl jewelry-or adorn your bridesmaids with them
  9. Rent a vintage luxury car for your transportation instead of a limo

I love love love these Mad Men inspired wedding invitations created by Danielle Leopold Designs.  Every single detail, from the bold colors and unique fonts to the vintage photograph RSVP cards was cleverly constructed to complete the ultimate vintage invitation set.

If you’re more of a crafty and hands on bride, you can make your own Mad Men Save the Date I found on Your Savvy Soiree (originally posted by the Wedding Chicks)

mad men save the date

This backyard style Mad Men inspired wedding, photographed by Dana Grant and posted last year on the brilliant Green Wedding Shoes blog has been bookmarked for 10 months and it’s still as impressive as it was when I first came across it.

There are SO many extraordinary images and details to this celebration that you cannot miss.  Visit Green Wedding Shoes and get the complete coverage of  Catie and Ben’s Real Wedding.  After four incredible seasons, there should be plenty more 1960′s Mad Men inspiration circulating the web.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new vintage era in TV land.  HBO’s latest series, Boardwalk Empire, has opened up eyes and hearts to the fabulous Roaring 1920′s. Beaded, fringed and feathered frocks, pearls galore and Great Gatsby style parties… need I say more?  If only I could have been a real flapper…

Finding an amazing and glamorous 20′s style gown should not be a difficult task these days.  Bridal Gowns by Jenny Packham and Sue Wong bridesmaids dresses immediately come to mind but there’s much more out there.  Of course, any ensemble can be jazzed up (cheesy pun intended) with 1920′s style jewelry and adornments.

Here’s one of my Great Gatsby style inspiration boards:

Fash the Dress photos

Posted by on March 25, 2011 · Leave a Comment

I’ve seen my fair share of creative Trash the Dress photos, however, I often cringe at the sight of special and stunning gowns being destroyed (deliberately).

So, when Mandie Charlton of ShutterBrugs Photography sent me this “Fash the Dress” photo session of Katarina and Scott, I was thrilled to see an alternative shoot that celebrates wedding style.

Instead of coating our brides in mud, we aim for a more high end shoot with an editorial feel for our couples,” described Mandie.

french styled bride and groom shoot

The highly sophisticated and fashion forward couple, had a Marie Antoinette themed wedding followed by a romantic honeymoon in France.

Looking tres chic, Mandie photographed the newlyweds in an outdoor winter wonderland with fresh snow and bare trees.  To complete the picture perfect, Parisian style scene, the setting included an adorable cake made by J’Adore Cake Co and romantic flowers from Fleurish Design Studio.

Katarina was a vision in her couture Oscar de la Renta gown purchased at White Toronto.  It was a dress was fit for a princess with its feminine frills and layers of luxury fabrics.

Scott looked sharp in a custom tailored Hugo Boss suit from Harry Rosen and PRADA shoes he received as a gift from Katarina on their wedding day.

Best new bridesmaid dresses

Posted by on January 11, 2011 · 1 Comment

New 2011 bridesmaid dress collections have arrived and I’m happy to report some improvements. Thankfully, dresses are looking less like uniforms.

Are more and more brides are trashing the shallow idea that the uglier the bridesmaids, the prettier the bride?
I CERTAINLY HOPE SO!  Hideous bridesmaid dresses mean the bride has poor taste!
For all you Wed Savvy brides here are some standout new dress options that are sure to keep your gals happy and stylish!

-MODERN, BOHEMIAN

  • The Kylie by Thread Bridesmaids ($290)  This two toned dress is available in both mini and knee lengths.  It features a sweetheart neckline, a double layer skirt, and a stylish combination of taffeta and chartreuse fabrics.  Finally, an option that’s not so monotone and doesn’t involve colored sashes!

-FUN, GLAMOROUS, FEMININE

  • Bill Levkoff Style #594- Strapless cocktail length dress with a sequin bodice and chiffon pleated cummerbund accenting the natural waist. Soft gathered chiffon skirt with overlay draped effect. A two-toned dress featuring sequins and chiffon fabrics that are available in virtually every color combination.  Since I was unable to get images of the fabulous different sequined top options (gold, mocha, white, etc), you must visit the above link to play around.  So many options!

-FEMININE, ROMANTIC, CLASSIC

  • Priscilla of Boston-Love the super sweet, unique flower at the waistline of this silk satin purple gown
  • Monique Lhuillier- Obsessing over the chic shoulder straps.  Flirty and flattering but also a classic gown.
  • Amsale style G30C- That ever so popular flowing chiffon fabric that Amsale made famous takes a unique form in a new, gorgeous color.

-MODERN, GLAMOROUS, FORMAL, CLASSIC

  • Melissa Sweet- this red hot short number accentuates curves in the most flattering way with its unique pleating.
  • Anna Maier-Ulla Maija couture: Just one in the designer’s stunning new line of formal, gorgeous bridesmaids gowns.  This black lace design is sexy and eye-catching without crossing the inappropriate line.
  • White House Black Market:  A satin rosette dress that can be dressed up or down and re-worn.  Every bridesmaid loves a little black dress!

Glam sheath dresses

Posted by on October 23, 2010 · 2 Comments

Designers are often known for mastering a specific silhouette or gown style.   For example, you say “mermaid,” I think Lazaro,  or you say “vintage glam” and I think Jenny Packham.  However, fashion week reminds me that designers often add curve balls that can attract brides who assume their bridal style is different from the designer’s aesthetics.

Case and point: The Spring 2009 collection from Anna Maier/ Ulla-Maija Couture.

A few key elements immediately pop in my head when I think of this designer: duchess satin, architectural folds, clean draping, and classic elegance.  Almost all the other gowns fit my expectations, until I saw this glitzy number (below)

Obviously, it didn’t fit the mold but it definitely stood out!

Many designer’s at NYC Bridal Fashion Week (which ended today) added spice and variety to their new collections.  They  incorporated stylish trends like short wedding styles, light and airy fabrics, and glamorous sheath style wedding gowns into their lines. Check out some of the unique and sexy sheaths I spotted from across the board:

Future brides, I am envious of the gorgeous gowns you will soon be able to try on.  Don’t be afraid to try on different designers or styles you haven’t cut out of a magazine.  You may be pleasantly surprised!

NYC Bridal Fashion Week

Posted by on October 20, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Dear readers,

I have not been abandoning you!
Bridal fashion week kicked off this past Saturday in NYC, revealing the newest designer wedding dress collections of 2011

Randy Fenoli of Kleinfeld

Pictured above: the fabulous Randy Fenoli, Fashion Director of Kleinfeld Bridal, perusing gowns.  You know his stylish eye would not miss bridal fashion week!

Per usual, I am completely consumed by all the trends and details that have graced the runway thus far and I can’t wait to see the rest.  Expect a complete Wed Savvy wrap up and favorite dress report next week:)

Until then, I can’t stop myself from sharing some of the gorgeous and innovative styles on the catwalk.  There are too many standouts so I might have to give some worthy designers separate posts to break it all down.

NOTABLE TRENDS:

  • Many more short style dresses
  • Light and airy, “ballerina” gowns still rule the runway with their beautiful flow and movement.
  • More attractive and unique non-strapless options
  • Lots of butter and creamy colored dress hues which compliment many skin tones.
  • Lovely Layers, ruffles, pleating and draping in softer (not as heavy) materials

Eye candy to follow….
