The bridal look for less

Posted by on August 22, 2011 · 4 Comments

After hours of research, I hope to convince you that you can pull off your favorite coveted designer bridal look for less. The crumby economy and lucrative wedding expenses have definitely added extra wedding debt and tighter budgets for the bride or whoever is footing the bill.

Remember, it pays to be resourceful…

Let me show you how to walk down the aisle in your favorite runway look without resorting to those cheap “designer inspired” knockoffs made in China and/or found on ebay (I have heard way too many horror stories).

Spring 2012-fabulous bridal gowns

Posted by on May 4, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Future brides can look forward to trying on some sweet new wedding gowns spotted on the catwalk.

Here’s my (long overdue) Spring 2012 Bridal Runway Round-up…(in no particular order). I had too many favorites so it was tough to narrow down the list to nine.

Best-Spring-2012-wedding-dresses

Pictured Gowns:

  1. Reem Acra- glamorous sparkled embellishments under romantic layers of sheer and flowing fabrics and slightly more transparent short sleeves. I’m loving the illusion bodice with the see through a-line structure.   Now, that’s a gown your guests are going to want to see up close and personal.
  2. Monique Lhuillier- Another stunning and detailed Monique Lhuillier design that’s consistent with her beautiful, feminine aesthetic. I think the blush color adds some more romance but the gown is also available in white.
  3. Carolina Herrera- This dress is classic, elegant and simply marvelous, darling.  Herrera certainly knows elegance and this lace mermaid gown is proof of that.  How Sophisticated and timeless!
  4. Christos- Loving the infusion of the most popular silhouette with extra special and unique ribbon style adornment to add the wow factor.  The detailing is unlike the other patterns seen on the bridal runway this season.
  5. Carolina Herrera- Again, upscale elegance is the name of the game.  This dress is simply a work of art and the more I look at it, the more I like it.  A ballgown style that’s tailored and painted to perfection.
  6. Oscar De La Renta- A silver metallic shimmer top with layers upon layers of soft and angelic fabric folds.  All eyes on the bride-this gown is full of glam!
  7. Monique Lhuillier- You can easily spot the designer’s creations as she knows just how to flatter a woman’s body.  This dress celebrates femininity with it’s impeccable floral details.
  8. Ines Di Santo- The go to designer for showstopping ballgowns, gives us a sexy and stand out number that will make the grooms jaw drop.  It’s a ballgown that manages to show off a gorgeous body.
  9. Ines Di Santo- Another beautiful designer gown that stood out in a collection with lots of ballgowns.  The clean lines and polished look of this dress is modern, sophisticated with a beautiful touch of glitz and glam. Very Parisian Chic!

Dressing Wedding Tables

Posted by on March 3, 2011 · 7 Comments

You know that the bride has infused her wedding with personal style when the table linens resemble her wedding dress.

Long gone are the days of the standard, stiff white or ivory tablecloths.  HOORAY!
If it makes sense to choose your wedding gown before picking your jewelry, then why not approach your reception tables this way?
I hope my examples inspire you:

Glam sheath dresses

Posted by on October 23, 2010 · 2 Comments

Designers are often known for mastering a specific silhouette or gown style.   For example, you say “mermaid,” I think Lazaro,  or you say “vintage glam” and I think Jenny Packham.  However, fashion week reminds me that designers often add curve balls that can attract brides who assume their bridal style is different from the designer’s aesthetics.

Case and point: The Spring 2009 collection from Anna Maier/ Ulla-Maija Couture.

A few key elements immediately pop in my head when I think of this designer: duchess satin, architectural folds, clean draping, and classic elegance.  Almost all the other gowns fit my expectations, until I saw this glitzy number (below)

Obviously, it didn’t fit the mold but it definitely stood out!

Many designer’s at NYC Bridal Fashion Week (which ended today) added spice and variety to their new collections.  They  incorporated stylish trends like short wedding styles, light and airy fabrics, and glamorous sheath style wedding gowns into their lines. Check out some of the unique and sexy sheaths I spotted from across the board:

Future brides, I am envious of the gorgeous gowns you will soon be able to try on.  Don’t be afraid to try on different designers or styles you haven’t cut out of a magazine.  You may be pleasantly surprised!

Red Carpet Bridal Gowns

Posted by on September 11, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Every red carpet event, I suffer from severe celebrity envy.  It’s not the fame and screaming fans that gets me, it’s the glamorous fashion.  Who else has an excuse to wear the most exquisite designer wedding dresses straight off the runway, on a regular basis?

Typically, we “commoners” only have one gown and one day to live out this fantasy and it comes with a high price tag.

But every season, designers seduce me with their latest breathtaking bridal designs, then leave me completely heart broken when I watch them on another woman (some beautiful celebrity) at an awards show, gala, movie premiere and so on.

It’s hard to narrow down the list but I did my best.
Here are some of my most coveted celebrity wedding style gowns that hit the red carpet in perfect form:

Strap-on!

Posted by on February 20, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Strapless wedding gowns have always been the top-selling and most abundant dresses in the bridal market.  However, many designers have gotten more creative in 2010-beyond the asymmetric, one shoulder style dress.  See examples below from designers; Monique Lhuillier, Priscilla of Boston, Enzoani, Reem Acra, Angel Sanchez and Jennifer Salzman.2010 wedding dresses with straps

Celebrities like Katie Holmes and Ivanka Trump have opted to wear non strapless dresses to their ultra-chic weddings. Have they been inspiring modern brides to follow?
