Fun embellished wedding shoes

Posted by on April 18, 2011 · 1 Comment

We love seeing photographer’s creative and breathtaking shoe shots! Fun, designer wedding heels have been a hot bridal trend these days.

Although, some brides wind up wearing their fancy footwear for a maximum of 3 hours, they are willing to dish out hundreds and even thousands of dollars for that special pair of Manolo Blahniks, Christian Louboutins, or Jimmy Choos.  Why not let you your shoes take the spotlight?

These fun, hand painted/embellished wedding shoes are couture works of art. They are guaranteed to produce unforgettable photographs and, unlike mainstream designer brands, you won’t see other brides wearing them.

Bag the bouquet!?!

Posted by on September 4, 2010 · 5 Comments

Recently, I was pleasantly surprised to see a bridal party walk down the aisle carrying chic clutches in place of standard bouquets.  The girls looked relaxed and confident with their arms resting naturally at their sides.

The bridesmaid’s clutches were made of black silk dupioni fabric and adorned with different combinations of handmade silk, satin and organza flowers in eye-catching hues of fuchsia and mustard, to match the wedding color palette.

clutches as bouquets

During cocktail hour, the clutches were a hot topic among the guests and the bridesmaids, who showed off the detachable floral embellishments.  Who wouldn’t find use for an elegant black evening bag?

Even the bride gushed about her smart decision saying, “They make adorable gifts and are so much less wasteful than flowers.” As a side note, she added, “the money I saved helped me afford my dream wedding dress.”

While I am not sure who made her custom clutches, I know they were bought on Etsy.
Below are a few examples I found from some great etsy vendors who offer personalized arm candy and discount pricing for bridal parties.custom bridesmaid clutches on etsy

Bouquet embellishments

Posted by on August 8, 2010 · 2 Comments

Being a accessory fanatic, I love seeing more and more brides embellishing their wedding bouquets. From sentimental items like memorial charms and vintage brooches to glitzy swarovski crystals and hand beaded flowers, the choices are plentiful.  As always, I turn to etsy for some wonderful options…

Items in the above set: Silver beaded leaves from beadflorajewels.etsy.com ($21 for 5 stems), White beaded flowers from beadsbyallgood.etsy.com ($22 for 3), Engraved silver charm set from cherrycreek.etsy.com ($30), Wooden heart initials from braggingbags.etsy.com ($8), Custom pearl sleeve with photo charm from yourcharmedwedding.etsy.com ($14)

One of my favorite bouquet accessories are these beautiful “bouquet cuffs” from the bridal bling etsy shop (prices from $34-$69 each).  These custom wraps can instantly dress up your wedding flowers with style!

Sweet DIY: cupcake liner flowers

Posted by on July 28, 2010 · 1 Comment

From creative seating cards to handmade wedding decorations, Martha Stewart Weddings is full of amazing and inspiring DIY tutorials

But Martha is not the only one inspiring crafty brides.
Luckily, the “blogosphere” is full of free templates and tutorials to help unleash your creative side.

I recently stumbled upon the how to make flowers out of cupcake liners tutorial on the Intimate Weddings Blog.

I immediately purchased some fun and bright colored liners so I could try out the project myself.
Cupcake Liners on Etsy are easy to find, abundant and delightfully cheap!

Here is the fabulous tutorial from Intimate Weddings:

Supplies needed: cupcake liners (eight small cupcake liners per flower were used here), pipe cleaners, a straight pin and floral tape

  • Take cupcake liners out of their packaging.

  • Flatten eight cupcake liners (enough for one flower) with your hands.

  • Using a straight pin, poke 2 holes on the inside of the liners about a half inch apart.

  • Insert pipe cleaner into the holes through the inside of the cupcake liners.

You will probably only be able to do a couple at a time.

  • Keep repeating until you have all 8 cupcake liners threaded onto the pipe cleaner.

  • Bring the end of pipe cleaner through the second hole.

  • Starting as close as you can to the edge of the liners, wrap your pipe cleaner with floral tape.

It takes a bit of practice to get good at it.

  • After all eight of the cupcake liners have been placed onto the pipe cleaner, begin pinching the cupcake liners with your thumb and index finger one at a time, starting with the top one. Repeat until all cupcake liners have been shaped.
