Fun embellished wedding shoes

Posted by on April 18, 2011 · 1 Comment

We love seeing photographer’s creative and breathtaking shoe shots! Fun, designer wedding heels have been a hot bridal trend these days.

Although, some brides wind up wearing their fancy footwear for a maximum of 3 hours, they are willing to dish out hundreds and even thousands of dollars for that special pair of Manolo Blahniks, Christian Louboutins, or Jimmy Choos.  Why not let you your shoes take the spotlight?

These fun, hand painted/embellished wedding shoes are couture works of art. They are guaranteed to produce unforgettable photographs and, unlike mainstream designer brands, you won’t see other brides wearing them.

Fash the Dress photos

Posted by on March 25, 2011 · Leave a Comment

I’ve seen my fair share of creative Trash the Dress photos, however, I often cringe at the sight of special and stunning gowns being destroyed (deliberately).

So, when Mandie Charlton of ShutterBrugs Photography sent me this “Fash the Dress” photo session of Katarina and Scott, I was thrilled to see an alternative shoot that celebrates wedding style.

Instead of coating our brides in mud, we aim for a more high end shoot with an editorial feel for our couples,” described Mandie.

french styled bride and groom shoot

The highly sophisticated and fashion forward couple, had a Marie Antoinette themed wedding followed by a romantic honeymoon in France.

Looking tres chic, Mandie photographed the newlyweds in an outdoor winter wonderland with fresh snow and bare trees.  To complete the picture perfect, Parisian style scene, the setting included an adorable cake made by J’Adore Cake Co and romantic flowers from Fleurish Design Studio.

Katarina was a vision in her couture Oscar de la Renta gown purchased at White Toronto.  It was a dress was fit for a princess with its feminine frills and layers of luxury fabrics.

Scott looked sharp in a custom tailored Hugo Boss suit from Harry Rosen and PRADA shoes he received as a gift from Katarina on their wedding day.

Flirty Aprons

Posted by on March 16, 2011 · 1 Comment

Embracing your domestic side is all part of the fun of being a bride.  I am not suggesting a woman’s place is in the kitchen.  However, activities like registering and having bridal showers usually involve getting cooking related gifts.

Photos from my bridal shower in the Summer of 2009

I was pleasantly surprised to receive two unique, feminine aprons as gifts at my 2009 bridal shower.  As you can see, I was so excited that I put each of them on over my dress to wear throughout the duration of the event (my guests loved it)

If you’re looking for a great and memorable gift any girl would covet, check out FlirtyAprons.com

FlirtyAprons.com offers a 30 day money back guarantee and ships the same day out of Utah if ordered before 2am.

Not to worry grooms, FlirtyAprons.com, is not all about the bride (shocking, I know).  The site has men’s aprons for the grill without the frill.

Dressing Wedding Tables

Posted by on March 3, 2011 · 7 Comments

You know that the bride has infused her wedding with personal style when the table linens resemble her wedding dress.

Long gone are the days of the standard, stiff white or ivory tablecloths.  HOORAY!
If it makes sense to choose your wedding gown before picking your jewelry, then why not approach your reception tables this way?
I hope my examples inspire you:

I thought this theme would be unique and way outside the box, until I googled “wizard of oz wedding cake” for image #9 and realized there were some other Dorothy inspirations. Apparently, renowned wedding planner David Tutera recently created a Wizard of Oz themed wedding on the we TV show, My Fair Wedding

If you want to go crazy and all-out with theme, the classic movie is full of fun characters and elements to work with.

The paper cake was designed to hold gift cards.  With a beauty like this, your wedding guests will have no problem remembering to drop off their cards/gifts and get the chance to check out this crafty gem for themselves.

Be sure to check out Tracey Mason’s Studio blog where she graciously shares her DIY Paper Cake instructions

Tracey also gives a paper rose video tutorial to show you how to make those showstopping floral embellishments.

The T.Mason Studio You Tube channel has been marked as a favorite and I’m game for any project this master crafter is willing to share!

Winter Weddings

Posted by on November 17, 2010 · 1 Comment

Winter is upon us…

As a Chicagoan, I am never thrilled to say that.  On a positive note, however, I do heart winter weddings.

They give us an excuse to ditch the winter blues and quit hibernating, and make the idea of dressing up and dancing extra special (open bars also appreciated).

There may not be a million colorful flower options available, but there are plenty of ways for Winter brides to add beautiful decor and personal touches to their special day.

Need proof? No problem.

Below are a few inspiration boards I created based on three common “accent colors;” white, silver and gold.  I adore these delightful details gathered from some of my favorite, trusty wedding sources.

To many non-crafters, wedding DIY tutorials can be too complex and often result in disaster.

Use the above diagram and below instructions to complete this super easy and affordable DIY!  These ribbon pomanders can give any party or event some colorful flair…

1. Materials:

  • styrofoam ball (3″ or any size you want)
  • Ribbon spools in your wedding color(s)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pins

2. Measure and cut ribbon to 4″ lengths

3.  Make a circle from each ribbon by crossing both ends and insert two small pins

4. Pin circle to styrofoam ball

5. Repeat the process, overlapping the circles of ribbon to your desired fullness

6. Attach a long ribbon of about 12″ using 4 or 5 straight pins to secure to ball and use to hang pomanders

Real Wedding: Kate + Daniel

Posted by on October 9, 2010 · 2 Comments

From the engagement to the wedding, this sweet real wedding was captured by the ultra talented photographer, Kristin Vining.

The love story of Kate and Daniel is a sweet one.

The two met in the Fall of 2002. Kate’s college roommate was visiting her boyfriend at Clemson University and Kate agreed to come.  As it turned out, the boyfriend’s roommate was Daniel Sap.
What could have been an awkward trip, ended up being a legendary weekend.

Kate and Daniel connected and were instantly friends.  The two kept in touch ever since and after four years of friendship they became extremely close.

By Fall 2006, Kate realized that her feelings for Daniel surpassed the friendship level.  When she bravely confessed, Daniel was elated as he told her those feelings were mutual.
The two became an item ever since…

sap engagement ringAfter happily dating for three full years, Daniel reserved the private dining room at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in uptown Charlotte for their Anniversary.
Their intimate table was located in the restaurants romantic wine cellar and had a dozen pink roses waiting for Kate.

The romance continued after dinner as the couple hopped on a horse and carriage ride.

To Kate’s surprise, Daniel presented a sparkly diamond ring and formally asked her to be his wife… Of course, she said “Yes!”engagement of Kate + Daniel

As you can tell from the above engagement photos, Kate and Daniel are a beautiful couple with such enduring personalities.

WEDDING-DATE

The big day had finally arrived and Kate and Daniel were ecstatic!

Kate wore a beautiful lace and silk, sweetheart wedding gown designed by Alvina Valenta. She was an absolute vision! Daniel, wearing a Penguin Tuxedo, was also looking pretty  sharp.

The couple couldn’t wait to finally see each other as the bride and groom.

Daniel-the groom

Just a warning, this is the part where you may need to have a few tissues nearby as Kate and Daniel are about to have their first meeting.

Clearly, this moment was incredibly special to the couple.  Thanks to Kristin Vining for preserving the priceless reactions of the bride and groom.

Kate and Daniel’s ceremony and reception was held at Byron’s South End in Charlotte, NC.  The event style was modern (or contemporary) with “Asian flair.”

Their wedding details were thoughtfully chosen, with help from Tiffany Ratliff of Weddings and the City, to reflect the couple’s unique personalities, cultures and personal tastes.

Daniel is Cambodian and in a typical Cambodian wedding, all guests are pinned with orchids.
Putting their own spin on this tradition, Kate and Daniel added fresh pink orchids to petite white vases to be displayed throughout the evening and given as a favor to each guest.

The reception space was transformed into a unique lounge, or “zen” like, environment.  Kate and Daniel wanted everyone to dance, mingle and enjoy themselves.  They decided to surround the dance floor with a mixture of  high-top tables and lounge furniture, leaving enough formal seating for half of their guests.  There were various food stations set up, featured delicious bites that were easy to eat standing up..

Just as they hoped, the dance floor was packed all night!

kate+Daniel-decorcake and candles

Parasols and paper lanterns in different shades of pink hung from the ceiling adding dimension and pops of Kate’s favorite color to the space. The Place for Flowers created contemporary arrangements that included orchids and moss and stem wrapped cylinders with floating candles.  The wedding cake made by Cake Lady Jill complimented their wedding decor brilliantly.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Sap were on cloud nine as their wedding vision truly came to life.  The night could not have been more special.
