Spring 2012 bridal gowns that wow

Posted by on May 4, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Future brides can look forward to trying on some sweet new wedding gowns spotted on the catwalk.

Here’s my (long overdue) Spring 2012 bridal gowns Round-up…(in no particular order). I had too many favorites so it was tough to narrow down the list to nine.

Best-Spring-2012-wedding-dresses

Pictured Gowns:

  1. Reem Acra- glamorous sparkled embellishments under romantic layers of sheer and flowing fabrics and slightly more transparent short sleeves. I’m loving the illusion bodice with the see through a-line structure.   Now, that’s a gown your guests are going to want to see up close and personal.
  2. Monique Lhuillier- Another stunning and detailed Monique Lhuillier design that’s consistent with her beautiful, feminine aesthetic. I think the blush color adds some more romance but the gown is also available in white.
  3. Carolina Herrera- This dress is classic, elegant and simply marvelous, darling.  Herrera certainly knows elegance and this lace mermaid gown is proof of that.  How Sophisticated and timeless!
  4. Christos- Loving the infusion of the most popular silhouette with extra special and unique ribbon style adornment to add the wow factor.  The detailing is unlike the other patterns seen on the bridal runway this season.
  5. Carolina Herrera- Again, upscale elegance is the name of the game.  This dress is simply a work of art and the more I look at it, the more I like it.  A ballgown style that’s tailored and painted to perfection.
  6. Oscar De La Renta- A silver metallic shimmer top with layers upon layers of soft and angelic fabric folds.  All eyes on the bride-this gown is full of glam!
  7. Monique Lhuillier- You can easily spot the designer’s creations as she knows just how to flatter a woman’s body.  This dress celebrates femininity with it’s impeccable floral details.
  8. Ines Di Santo- The go to designer for showstopping ballgowns, gives us a sexy and stand out number that will make the grooms jaw drop.  It’s a ballgown that manages to show off a gorgeous body.
  9. Ines Di Santo- Another beautiful designer gown that stood out in a collection with lots of ballgowns.  The clean lines and polished look of this dress is modern, sophisticated with a beautiful touch of glitz and glam. Very Parisian Chic!

Shedding for the Wedding

cw-shedding for the wedding

After attempting to watch the dull and disturbing series, Bridalplasty, my hopes were not high for the CW network’s new T.V. show, Shedding for the Wedding.

However, tonight’s season premiere was surprisingly refreshing.  On this show, the contestants are nine engaged couples that actually work their butts off (literally) to win the wedding of their dreams.  The unique personalities and dynamics of each couple were pretty entertaining.  They have COMPLETELY different visions of the perfect wedding which made me want to root for the wedding I would most like to see.

During each episode the couple’s compete in a physical challenge to win one specific wedding element (e.g. the dress, the cake, the invitations, the rings) which is theirs to keep. The couple’s are weighed together on over-sized scales, just like on The Biggest Loser.  The two teams with the least amount of pounds shed must compete in an elimination challenge and the loser goes home.

SHEDDING FOR THE WEDDING

Here’s a brief overview of the contestants and their wedding styles

Allison and David Team Fairy Tale

  • Definitely the couple with the most common type of dream wedding
  • Wedding colors: Ivory and Champagne pink

Dawn and Adam- Team Fun and Games

  • Expect their wedding to have ping pong tables, shuffleboard, air hockey, etc. (interesting….)
  • Wedding colors: Purple and Fucshia

Laerisa and Stephen- Team Hollywood

  • This couple wants to roll out a red carpet and be movie stars
  • Wedding colors: Red and Blue

Laura and Austin- Team Football

  • All about the pig skin…obviously Packer Fans!
  • Wedding colors: Green and Gold

Lindsey and Chase- Team Greek Week

  • These two met at a frat party and insist on having a monogrammed beer pong table at the wedding)
  • Wedding Colors: Orange and Blue

Samantha and Brooks- Team Eco-Lovers

  • A total granola wedding where the maid of honor wears a bio-degradable dress
  • Wedding Colors: Sage green and Plum

Taylor and Peter- Team Gamers

  • By “gamers” I am not talking about sports.  These two met online playing Final Fantasy XI and are addicted to their “virtual gaming worlds.”
  • Wedding Colors: Chocolate Brown and Green

Valerie and Dave- Team Big Band

  • They are all about eclectic music, especially swing dancing tunes
  • Wedding Colors: Canary Yellow and Blue Violet

Ginny and Marc- Team Beach Romance

  • They are all about the water and the sand but Ginny and Marc drowned this week and were sent home
  • Wedding Colors: Baby Pink and Taupe

Department Store Bridal Shops

Posted by on December 1, 2010 · 3 Comments

You may have noticed the recent ads and upgrades of department stores like Nordstrom, Lord and Taylor and Macy’s, targeting brides and bridesmaids for wedding day shopping.  With so much competition, each of these giants offer something different to distinguish themselves from the others.

Here are a few key advantages and/or disadvantages of wedding shopping at Nordstrom, Lord and Taylor and Macy’s.

NORDSTROM:

-Many (over 16) existing locations have expanded their bridal sections and have their own bridal concierge employees to help.  They offer a wide price range for gowns and bridesmaid dresses, from $138 to $2,000.

Monique Lhuillier for Nordstrom exclusives

One fabulous perk is the offering of exclusive ML Monique Lhuillier bridesmaids dresses (pictured above) priced at under $200.  Being one of my all time favorite dress designers, I would have loved the option of having my bridal party wear Monique Lhuillier just like I did on my wedding day.

-To it’s disadvantage, the store lacks a huge variety of popular designer wedding dresses for the bride and it still has no home/registry component.

LORD AND TAYLOR:

Until now, this department store has kind of dropped off my radar.  That may just be because I live in downtown Chicago, where Lord and Taylor has little presence.

Lately, billboards and advertisements have been popping up everywhere!  I was actually pleasantly surprised when I visited the website to see the latest developments.

Lord and Taylor brides

One huge plus was seeing stylish wedding gowns that were actually designed and created by the Lord and Taylor’s own brand (one pictured above).  I was also thrilled to see the addition of new, fashionable bridesmaid dress lines like Love by Enzoani and finally a brand new home and registry shop.  It’s efforts have come full circle to try and make Lord and Taylor a good contender for being your one stop bridal shop.

MACYS:

macy's bridal registry ad

PROS: Macy’s always has spectacular sales, helping you to save a ton of money.  They also have one of the largest home and registry departments around. Their Wedding Shop also includes suggested gifts for your bridal party at various price points!  Macy’s carries some more plus size bridesmaid gowns to fit many different body types.  If you do go to a specified bridal shop location, then you will see a number of higher end, designer wedding gowns and special stylists to help with fittings.

Macy's bridal salon site

CONS: The full Macy’s bridal salon is only available in limited locations and it is not directly linked to on the Macy’s website.  To make matters worse, the store location link does not appear to be working right now.

Bridalplasty?

Looks like E! is jumping on the bridal TV bandwagon and casting for their new series that definitely adds the network’s Hollywood focused style.

bridalplasty

According to the Hollywood Reporter:

In the new series named “Bridalplasty,” plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow of Newport Beach will “guide the competitors in their quest for a flawless wedding,” E! said in a press release. E! stated:

Before the competition heats up, [12 contestants] meet with Dr. Dubrow for a private consultation to create a personalized plastic surgery “wish list” that they hope to complete before walking down the aisle – from muffin tops to crooked noses to flat chests, the perceived imperfections they hope to fix are extensive and dramatic. Each bride will leave the consultations with a clear vision of what her new body could be.

Each week’s winner of competitions such as writing wedding vows or planning honeymoons will get to choose a procedure from her “wish list.” The surgery “will take place immediately and be revealed at the beginning of the next episode,” E! said — apparently before the bride/patient has a chance to recover from the surgery.

Competitors will be eliminated one by one until the final contestant wins a “dream wedding,” where she will unveil her surgically altered looks to family, friends and the groom.

Viewers will witness his emotional and possibly shocked reaction as they stand at the altar and he lifts her veil to see her for the first time following her extreme plastic surgery,” E! said.

I’m assuming the series might be missing the authentic, touching appeal of a show like “Say Yes to the Dress.” I say, if you have a ring on your finger there’s clearly somebody who loves you just the way you are…

Strap-on!

Strapless wedding gowns have always been the top-selling and most abundant dresses in the bridal market.  However, many designers have gotten more creative in 2010-beyond the asymmetric, one shoulder style dress.  See examples below from designers; Monique Lhuillier, Priscilla of Boston, Enzoani, Reem Acra, Angel Sanchez and Jennifer Salzman.2010 wedding dresses with straps

Celebrities like Katie Holmes and Ivanka Trump have opted to wear non strapless dresses to their ultra-chic weddings. Have they been inspiring modern brides to follow?

In my last post, Angela Nuran Shoe Genius, I forgot to provide a sneak peak of her new Astoria bride and Astoria black silk heels.
Her Eternity pearl style shoes will also be offered with a new kitten heel (pictured bottom right).  These gorgeous kicks hit the market this November and I’m in love with the new detailed embellishments!
