In honor of Cinco De Mayo, some fabulous fiesta style wedding inspiration:

I’m so in love with the  above photos.  The first one I spotted on the Sweetest Occasion blog and the second I found at Events of Love and Splendor.  Two great blogs that always inspire!

The Real Spanish Style Wedding Ceremony below is also pretty fantastic.  It was originally posted on the Ruffled bridal blog.

Wedding Dress Envy: Rebecca Twigley Judd

Posted by on April 13, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Before I get into showcasing some new designer bridal gowns for Spring 2012, I had to indulge you in seeing this fabulously sexy and breathtaking bridal gown.

This showstopping dress was worn by Aussie model Rebecca Twigley at her New Year’s Eve wedding to AFL football player Chris Judd in Melbourne, Australia… kind of looks like Vera Wang meets P’nina Tornai?

Above images courtesy of Zimbio

According to the Wedding Style Guide,

Rebecca chose close friends Jacob Luppino and Anthony Pittorino of J’Aton Couture to create her exquisite art deco-inspired gown as well as her bridesmaids and her mothers gowns. Weighing a whopping 30kg the gown featured lace and intricate beading all over the bodice and took 300 hours to make.

Clearly one talented and fashion forward design house…

J’Aton also dressed Rebecca’s bridesmaids in flowing pewter gowns of different styles to compliment each one of their figures.

I am enamored by these amazing, sultry bridesmaid dresses… however, I wish there was one extra layer of fabric on the bottom!

What do you think of the Aussie bombshell’s wedding style?

Dressing Wedding Tables

Posted by on March 3, 2011 · 7 Comments

You know that the bride has infused her wedding with personal style when the table linens resemble her wedding dress.

Long gone are the days of the standard, stiff white or ivory tablecloths.  HOORAY!
If it makes sense to choose your wedding gown before picking your jewelry, then why not approach your reception tables this way?
I hope my examples inspire you:

Real Wedding at the Tribeca Rooftop: Marcie+Corey

Posted by on February 13, 2011 · 1 Comment

If Taylor Swift knew Marcie and Corey, I’m convinced the couple would have their own hit love song.

From the moment Marcie and Corey met at Cardozo High School in Bayside Queens, they shared a magnetic connection.  They talked on the phone for hours and spent most of their free time together.  By 1996, the 16 year old classmates were boyfriend and girlfriend, a term now referred to as facebook official.

Unlike most typical teenage romances, Marcie and Corey never grew apart.
“After high school, we both went off to different colleges in different states.  Even then, we nearly spoke every single day. Once we graduated, it wasn’t even a question.  We just wanted to be together,” said Marcie.

proposal and engagement

When I asked Marcie to tell me about the proposal her response was too perfect for me to reword.  She said,

After 14 years together, it was long overdue!  As you can imagine, both our families (and myself) were getting anxious to get this marriage thing on the road.  On a Thursday night in June 2009, Corey was finally going to do it!  We were leaving for a vacation with my family the following day and while he had planned to do it during the trip, an opportunity presented itself.

We had gotten into bed at around midnight, ready to sleep before our early morning flight.  As we were chatting, I  jokingly said to Corey, ”Gee, you blew it! You could have proposed and been  the hero of the family trip…Why don’t you do it now with the ring you bought me for my 21st birthday (a running joke between us).”  Corey responded with, “Sure! Let’s do that,” and told me to go put on a dress for the special occasion.

Of course, I thought this was all just a silly game so I just indulged him.  I had my glasses on, my hair was a mess and I threw on some random dress (with the tags still on) that was way too big on me…
Let’s just say I wasn’t looking my best.   Corey decided  he was under dressed and put on a suit blazer, which looked awesome with the boxers he was wearing to bed.  Once we were “dressed”, Corey started to say some really sweet things (that neither of us can actually remember now since it was such a blur). I  could hear his heart pounding and thought, ‘Wow, if he’s this nervous and we’re just playing around, he’s never going to do it!”  After his mini speech, he asked me to hold the ring for a second and put the 21st birthday ring on my  hand.  When I looked back up, Corey was holding the engagement ring up in front of his face.  He smiled and asked me to marry him.   I was so in shock that I literally turned away and said, “Are you serious?” to the wall for about a minute before saying YES…  It was truly an amazing moment!

wedding-date

What do you get when you combine the breathtaking photography of Danny Weiss, the exquisite decor of Tantawan Bloom and a knock-out couple exploding with love and excitement?  An epic New York City wedding!

You also get so many outstanding images that make narrowing them down for this feature a daunting task…

marcie+corey wedding

Although Marcie does not recommend waiting 14 years to get hitched, it turned out to be the perfect day to get married.  She recalls, “Our wedding was during one of the hottest summers on record in NYC but on July 31st it was miraculously 82 degrees and sunny.  Having the cocktail hour outside on the roof was a big hit amongst the guests and the sunset was magical.”

One of the most memorable parts of the day was when the bride and groom saw each other for the first time.  While most people who do “first looks” arrange for a private meeting with the photographer, the couple let their family and wedding party be part of the big reveal.  Having the people they love watching made the special moment even more fun and exciting.

marcie-corey-first-look

Could this couple be more stunning and happy? I think not…

Marcie’s  Monique Lhuillier dress, purchased at Kleinfeld Manhattan, was beautiful.  Having a special bond and appreciation for her loving family, she accessorized with her grandmother’s bracelet and a special necklace that was created from her grandparent’s engagement ring.

mr-and-mrs.-wecler

During their Jewish wedding ceremony, the couple recited their own vows. “Hands down,” this was Marcie’s favorite wedding memory.

“People loved hearing our thoughts, feelings and stories, especially Corey’s.  They were amazingly written.  At the end of the vows, Corey said that Marcie had waited long enough and threw his vows in the air and told the Rabbi (nicely) to get the show on the road!  It was priceless,” she said.

WECLER-CEREMONY

Marcie and Corey’s wedding party really brought their A-game.

“They were all SO amazing and we are so appreciative for all they have done for us throughout the entire year of planning. Celebrating our marriage with them was an absolute blast!” said Marcie.

tribeca-wedding-party

With the incredible support and planning help from both of their loving mothers, Marcie and Corey pieced together the wedding of their dreams.

“We all had a very similar vision in our minds of how the end result would look and feel.  We wanted the event to be a true reflection of Corey and I.  If you look at our apartment, it has a very similar aesthetic as the Tribeca Rooftop, so that venue was at the top of our list.  Once the Tribeca was booked, the beautiful and modern space set the tone and inspired the décor choices that followed.  I also frequented bridal blogs, like  Wed Savvy, for guidance,” adds Marcie.

WECLER-RECEPTION

While looking through their photos, I started to tear up seeing images of  both of their moms together.  I have never seen such a strong and special bond between the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom.  Danny Weiss captured every precious emotion and both Marcie and Corey could not speak more highly of their talented photographer.

The couple also raved about the “GENIUS” work of Golf from Tantawan Bloom.wecler-reception-3

“The room looked and smelled like heaven and I’m not exaggerating.  I knew the flowers would be beautiful, but Golf blew everything we expected out of the water.  Six months after the wedding and we are still getting complements,” said Marcie.

The music by Hank Lane Ernest Mills band had everyone on the dance floor.  “The room was so full of happiness and energy. It was the most incredible feeling to see all the people we love smiling, dancing and having so much fun around us, ” said the new Mrs. Wecler.

“The entire wedding could not have been more perfect!”

Thanks to  5 Studios West, you can enjoy a short teaser video of Marcie and Corey’s epic wedding online (I highly recommend watching it).

Pretty pictured parasols

Posted by on January 24, 2011 · Leave a Comment

After featuring a Real New Orleans Wedding, I’ve had wedding parasols on the brain.

Above pictures from: 2 Sisters Blog, Chelsea Elizabeth Photography, and Natalie Moser via Australia Entertains

As you’ve probably noticed, many brides (without Second Line’s) have incorporporated parasols into their big day- whether they are to provide shade from the sun or are used as bouquet alternatives.  One thing’s for sure, parasols can certainly add some pizazz to your wedding photos.

Personalized parasols can be found on etsy for around $50 from shops like I Do Originals and Michelle’s This and That

I was excited to find that you can also rent parasols online from Bella Umbrella!  Rental reservations cost $10-$30, on average, and come in a wide range of styles and fabrics to choose from (sampled below).

I love the instant classy style umbrellas can add to your wedding day and, unlike bouquets, these beauties have a pretty good shelf life.

**ADDITION:

Thanks to one of my favorite photographers, Sarah Miller of Miller + Miller, I realized how painted parasols make a sweet, clever addition to a couple’s engagement photos.  It’s the perfect prop!

Best new bridesmaid dresses

Posted by on January 11, 2011 · 1 Comment

New 2011 bridesmaid dress collections have arrived and I’m happy to report some improvements. Thankfully, dresses are looking less like uniforms.

Are more and more brides are trashing the shallow idea that the uglier the bridesmaids, the prettier the bride?
I CERTAINLY HOPE SO!  Hideous bridesmaid dresses mean the bride has poor taste!
For all you Wed Savvy brides here are some standout new dress options that are sure to keep your gals happy and stylish!

-MODERN, BOHEMIAN

  • The Kylie by Thread Bridesmaids ($290)  This two toned dress is available in both mini and knee lengths.  It features a sweetheart neckline, a double layer skirt, and a stylish combination of taffeta and chartreuse fabrics.  Finally, an option that’s not so monotone and doesn’t involve colored sashes!

-FUN, GLAMOROUS, FEMININE

  • Bill Levkoff Style #594- Strapless cocktail length dress with a sequin bodice and chiffon pleated cummerbund accenting the natural waist. Soft gathered chiffon skirt with overlay draped effect. Glam sheath dresses

Posted by on October 23, 2010 · 2 Comments

Designers are often known for mastering a specific silhouette or gown style.   For example, you say “mermaid,” I think Lazaro,  or you say “vintage glam” and I think Jenny Packham.  However, fashion week reminds me that designers often add curve balls that can attract brides who assume their bridal style is different from the designer’s aesthetics.

Case and point: The Spring 2009 collection from Anna Maier/ Ulla-Maija Couture.

A few key elements immediately pop in my head when I think of this designer: duchess satin, architectural folds, clean draping, and classic elegance.  Almost all the other gowns fit my expectations, until I saw this glitzy number (below)

ULLA-MAIJA SPRING 2009

Ulla-Maija couture dress featured on the Knot

Obviously, it didn’t fit the mold but it definitely stood out!

Many designer’s at NYC Bridal Fashion Week (which ended today) added spice and variety to their new collections.  They  incorporated stylish trends like short wedding styles, light and airy fabrics, and glamorous sheath style wedding gowns into their lines. Check out some of the unique and sexy sheaths I spotted from across the board:

Future brides, I am envious of the gorgeous gowns you will soon be able to try on.  Don’t be afraid to try on different designers or styles you haven’t cut out of a magazine.  You may be pleasantly surprised!

Once, twice, 3 times a Lela

Posted by on February 21, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Wedding dress by Lela Rose

Although, this Lela Rose “loft style” dress is from the past 2009 Collection, it deserves some 2010 attention. I applaud Lela’s use of versatile, sheer draped sleeves that provide the bride with different looks for that one special dress.

Off the shoulder dresses and sheer fabrics are currently in high demand- they are sexy, sweet, and feminine!  However, dancing without the strap support can be uncomfortable for the bride doing dips and spins on the dance floor- hoping NOT to pull a “Janet Jackson superbowl” moment.

Thankfully, a quick transformation into the halter style sleeve version will act as a seatbelt for your bust.  I hope to see more wedding dresses in Lela’s “Loft” form=)

Inspire Yourself!

Posted by on February 18, 2010 · 1 Comment

Wedding detail cohesiveness

Let’s face it, some brides go a little overboard when it comes to wedding themes and schemes.  While it’s always nice to start planning with a concrete vision, allow yourself to be inspired along the way…

As an invitation dealer for several companies like Carlson Craft, Encore Studios and Rexcraft, we have a full library of invitation books in our home, to browse through at our convenience.  We found our invitation first- a shimmer pearl, pocket style invitation (#E1160) from the Encore Expressions of Love Wedding Ensemble Collection. Sadly, it’s rare for my hubby and I to have similar taste, so the choice was a no brainer when it appeared on both of our “list of favs!”

When browsing gowns with my bridesmaids, I was thrilled that they all loved this silky satin Melissa Sweet dress (style MS215 in fig) at Bella Bridesmaid.  Pictured on two of my bridesmaids above, the beautiful sweetheart style bust strongly resembles the folded pattern on our invite!

Finally, with the big day right around the corner, I was brainstorming cake ideas in my pocket notebook. We wanted it to be simple and elegant, with some added flair.  With the pearly fold pattern on the brain, I came up with this design (please excuse my terrible sketching skills).

original wedding cake sketchI faxed this sketch to the fabulous baker/designer, Mary Winslow at Take the Cake, who created our beautiful and BEYOND DELICIOUS wedding cake.

We received lots of compliments for the subtle incorporations, from beginning to end.

We allowed ourselves to inspire ourselves (I know that sounds cheesy) and it resulted in an affair with beautiful originality and cohesiveness=)
